Obituary of Betty M Jacobs
On July 5th 2026, just 3 days after her 94th Birthday, Betty Jacobs passed over from her earthly mortal life to the splendor of her eternal spiritual being.
Betty’s passing was the result of a relatively short period of illness that followed a debilitating heart attack.
Betty enjoyed the last 13 years of her life as an independent resident of Masonic Village in Lafayette Hill. Prior to moving to Masonic in their 80’s, she and her husband Harry lived for over 40 years at their residence on Mathers Mill Road where they raised their 5 children at St. Philip Neri School. Betty enjoyed her “mom” years as a member of SPN Women’s Guild, their bowling team and their numerous parish activities throughout the school year.
Betty was born Liberata Mary Notaro to her Italian immigrant parents, Rose Salbine Martino and Glorio “John” Notaro, whose family roots were respectively in Salerno and Rome, Italy. Her family settled in South Philadelphia upon arrival. Betty was the “baby” of her family with 3 other siblings. As a young schoolgirl, Betty would help her parents in their dry cleaning and tailor shop that they owned, and where they lived in a spacious apt. above their business.
Betty graduated from South Philadelphia High School for Girls in 1950. She then found a career working for the US Government in Philadelphia until she met and married her husband Harry in 1956 and had her 1st of 5 children in 1957. From then on, she was a devoted mother to her children and did not resume her civil service career until her children were independent. After retirement, Betty and Harry enjoyed short travel trips, especially Ocean City, NJ, and time with their grandchildren.
Betty loved watching TCM classic movies and was also an ardent Eagles fan. She relished talking Eagles sports with her grandsons and sons-in-law. She never missed a football game on TV up until this very last season.
Betty will be remembered for her overall kindness and especially for her devotion to her parents as they aged and needed her assistance. She loved children, especially her 8 grandchildren, and her 10 great grandchildren, whom she loved to “spoil.” She was notorious for her chicken cutlets and mashed potato dinners for the kids.
Betty was pre-deceased by: her husband Harry at his age 83, her baby sister Rose age 3, her brother Frank Notaro, her sister Mary Gigliotti, her son in law Michael Cermanski, and her granddaughter Lauren Elizabeth Barker at age 3.
Betty is survived by her 5 children: Elizabeth Rose Barker (James) of Lafayette Hill, MSJA ’74; Kenneth George Jacobs (Cathy) of Plymouth Meeting, PW ’76; Geraldine Marie Jacobs of Limerick, Archbishop Kennedy ’79; Theresa Ann Cermanski (Michael, deceased) of Schwenksville, Archbishop Kennedy ’80; Rosemarie Wilson (Tim) of East Norriton, MSJA ’84, and her brother, Dr. Armand Notaro.
Her 8 grandchildren are: Theresa Rose Westwood (Rob) of Royersford; Timothy O. Wilson of East Norriton; Lauren Elizabeth Barker (deceased); Denis Jacobs (Emily) of Port St Lucie, FL; James Joseph Barker IV (Christina) of Conshohocken; Dr. Bryan Scot Barker (Maggie) of Schwenksville; Michelle Marie Cermanski (Mike Mroz) of Mechanicsburg; Rose Elizabeth Wilson of Eagleville.
Betty’s 10 great grandchildren are: Lily Rose and Ethan Westwood; Ellana Lauren Barker; Hunter and Meadow Mroz; Gavin, Logan, Quinn & Pete Jacobs; and Cody James Barker.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Betty’s memory can be donated to one of her favorite charities:
SPCA Conshohocken, as she loved pets, especially their Bassett Hounds, The ARC Alliance of Montco (special needs children), St. Philip Neri School, Living Beyond Breast Cancer.
