Obituary of Mary Ann O'Brien

Mary Ann Meyer O’Brien, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2026 at the age of 96.

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mary Ann was the youngest child of Walter Clement Meyer and Marie Louise Haag Meyer. She grew up in the Olney neighborhood, attended Saint Benedict’s School, and graduated from Little Flower Catholic High School. She often reflected on her close-knit family and the values of faith, hard work, and kindness that guided her life.

In 1950, Mary Ann met Jeremiah O’Brien through mutual friends. After a courtship filled with trolley rides, long walks, and shared dreams, they were married on October 4, 1952, at Saint Benedict’s Church in Philadelphia. Together they shared a marriage of 57 years grounded in faith, love, and devotion.

Mary Ann and Jerry raised four children and created a home where family always came first. She devoted herself to her family and later found great joy in being “Grandmom” and a great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jeremiah O’Brien; her son, Jeremiah O’Brien III; her son-in-law, Joseph Steuer; and one great-grandson, Cashel Cannon.

She is survived by her children, Mary Lou Dwyer (Ed Dwyer), Walter O’Brien (Lynn O’Brien) Connie Steuer (late Joseph Steuer) and Rose O'Brien McNally (Kevin).

She is also survived by her grandchildren: Moira O'Brien, Meaghan O’Brien, Lauren O’Brien, Daniel McNally, Michael Dwyer, Kristen Gilman, John Dwyer, Truett Dwyer, Michael O'Brien, Joesph O'Brien, Maggie Keeve, Ann Ryan, Katie Killen, and Frank Cannon. She was blessed with 31 great-grandchildren, with a 32nd expected this year.

Mary Ann was the last surviving member of her generation in the Meyer family. She took great pride in preserving family history and sharing stories of her parents, siblings, and extended relatives, connecting generations through memory and tradition.

She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, quiet strength, and deep Catholic faith. She especially loved being surrounded by family and found her greatest joy in their presence.

Her greatest legacy is her family, who will carry forward her example of faith, love, and devotion.

A Visitation will be held at Epiphany of Our Lord Church located at 3050 Walton Road, Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday August 19, 2026 from 9:30-10:45 AM.

A Funeral Mass will be held following the Visitation at the church at 11:00 AM.

The interment will immediately follow the Funeral Mass at Calvary Cemetery of West Conshohocken, 235 Matsonford Road, Conshohocken, Pennsylvania.

Mary Ann’s family finds comfort in knowing she is reunited all of her loved ones who passed before her. Her love lives on in all who were blessed to know her.
