Thomas V. Gallagher, age 82 of Plymouth Meeting PA., died Monday (11/7) in the Montgomery Hospital.
He was the former President Of The Chester County Partnership For Economic Developement and was A Former Commissioner For The NY Collegiate Conference.
Tom served our country as a sailor and a citizen. He enlisted in the Navy in 1948 after graduating from Southeast Catholic H.S. He attended the Univ. of Connecticut graduating in 1955 with a degree in business. He also played basketball for The Univ. of Connecticut Huskies.
Tom married Anna McMenamin in 1958 and they enjoyed 53 years together.
Tom's business career was focused on housing and economic developement. He worked for the department of housing and urban devel. and later ran his own consulting business. He served as president of the Chester County Partnership for Economic Developement and retired in 1999. He then served as a NCAA commissioner of the New York Collegiate Atheletic Conference , which included the local Phila. Univ.
Tom served our country again in the 1960's when he was commissioned as an offer in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He rose to the rank of Captain. In 1975 he wrote a play "The maddest Idea" about the founding of the US Navy. The play was performed at Independence Hall as part of the Bicentenial in 1976. He retired as Captain in 1988 after 26 years of service.
Tom and his family lived in Plymouth Mtg. for 45 years and he was active in Plymouth Twp. as a Planning Commission member, coach, referee and also an umpire for the Twp. and also CYO sports. He was an active member of the Epiphany of Our Lord Church also.
He is survived by his wife Anna (McMenamin)
three daughters: Meg Vaccaro(Greg) of Merrimack, Maureen McAllister (Jim) of Plymouth Meeting, PA., Kate Leong (Ed) of Valley Forge, PA
two sons: Thomas Gallagher (Jennifer) of Merion Station, Michael Gallagher (Lisa) of Ashburn, VA
19 Grandchildren.,
Predeceased by siblings- Mary, John and Bernie.
Friends may call Thursday 11/10 from 6-8pm at Epiphany Of Our Lord Church, 3050 Walton Rd., Plymouth Meeting, PA. and Friday from 9:30-11AM
Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am
Burial will be in the Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown.
