Obituary of Anthony J Oscapinski

Anthony (Skeets, Osc) J Oscapinski, Jr, 87, formerly of Lafayette Hill, PA, passed away on December 15, 2018 in Sunrise Senior Living, Blue Bell, PA.

Visitation & Funeral service will be held at St. Phillips Neri on Wednesday, December 19, 2018.  Visitation from 9:30 - 11:00 AM, Christian Mass at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetary, 3301 West Cheltenham Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19150. Lownes Family Funeral Home, LLC will be handling the funeral arrangements.

Anthony J Oscapinski, Jr was born at home in Swedesburg, PA to Anthony J, Sr & Caroline (Czop) Oscapinski on December 23, 1930. He went to high school at St Matthew’s High School in Conshohocken, PA and graduated in 1948. After high school, he worked at Quaker Chemical. He entered the Army and served in Japan during the Korean War on a US Air Base reaching the rank of Corporal. After his service, on the GI Bill, he went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture in 1958 from Delaware Valley Agricultural College (formerly National Agricultural College). Continuing his education, he attended Temple University for his Master’s Degree. He pursued the field of education and became a teacher at Wagner Junior High School in Philadelphia. His main teaching career was at Roxborough High School in Philadelphia as an Earth Science teacher, Disciplinarian, Golf Coach, he helped build the school’s TV Studio, and retired in the mid 1990’s after a 30+ year career.  While working full time as a teacher, he also had a parallel career as a cameraman for Channel 6 retiring after 30+ years.  He worked  on shows such as Action News, Sally Starr, Captain Noah, Larry Ferrari, Chief Halftown Show, to name a few. He had a lifetime passion for salt water fishing and kept his boat in Cape May, NJ. He enjoyed working with his hands, going to flea markets, collecting antique fishing rods, and enjoyed taking trips to Maine.

Anthony is survived by his four step sons & two of three sons: James Tygh [Patty Ann] of Las Vegas, NV, Timothy Tygh [Diane] of Philadelphia, PA, Stephen Tygh [Marie] of Daniel Island, SC, Patrick Tygh of Flourtown, PA, Michael Oscapinski [Mitch Mednick] of Philadelphia, PA, and Dennis Oscapinski [Ginger] of East Greenville, PA.  He is survived by 10 grandchildren & 9 great-grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his wife Mary Virginia Oscapinski and son Anthony Oscapinski III.
