Obituary of Marvin Lewis Walter
Marvin L. Walter, 94, died on Saturday, February 19thin Chestnut Hill Hospital. Marvin was born on January 22, 1928, son of William H. and Rhoda (Heatherington) Walter. Marvin is predeceased by his brother, William H. Walter III. In addition to his wife, Carolyn, Marvin is survived by his children Valerie Walter of Chesterbrook, Vivian Doelling and husband, Michael of Cary, NC, Jennifer Vastardis of Chesterbrook and Eric Walter and wife, Gretchen of Gilbertsville. Marvin and Carolyn have 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Dolores Brown of Levittown and many nieces and nephews.
Marvin (Walt) graduated from Bristol High School in 1945 and joined the Navy shortly thereafter where he served in Guam as an aerographer, third class. After leaving the service in 1948, he married Carolyn Schofield in November of that year. Marvin graduated from Ryder College with a business degree in 1951 and began his professional career at Prudential Insurance Company. After 33 years, Marvin retired from Prudential and began working part-time as a Customer Service Representative at Vanguard in Valley Forge.
Marvin was a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Even into his 90’s, he would allow his great-grandchildren to climb on his back as he gave “horsey” rides. He enjoyed playing board games, hide and seek and taking the younger kids to the playground.
Marvin was active in Messiah Methodist Church,involved in fantasy football, enjoyed yard work, and was an avid tennis player.
On Saturday, February 26, 20922, family, friends and loved ones are invited to visit the family from 10:00 at Messiah Methodist Church in Lafayette Hill on 527 Ridge Pike. The service will begin at 11:00 with a luncheon following at Brittingham’s in Lafayette Hill. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you send donations to Messiah Methodist Church or Philabundance.
