Obituary of Kathleen M Lewis

Please share a memory of Kathleen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Kathleen M. Lewis of Wyndmoor, 70, departed this life on May 11, 2022, following a valiant six-year battle with multiple myeloma. Kathy was the beloved wife of Donald B. Lewis, to whom she was married for over fifty years. She is survived by her husband; children Matthew (Sarah) Lewis, Virginia (fiancée of Evangelos Vazakas) Lewis and Dr. William (Dr. Maura Williams) Lewis; grandsons Dylan and James Lewis; a sister, Sr. Margaret Conboy S.S.J.; brothers Thomas (Patricia), Robert (Susan) and John (Michele) Conboy; and many nephews, nieces and cousins.

Kathy was the daughter of Thomas J. Conboy and Elaine M. (Brown) Conboy. Born in West Philadelphia in 1951, Kathy moved to Willow Grove in 1962 and graduated from Archbishop Wood High School in 1969. She attended Millersville University, then after marriage transferred to Georgetown University’s School of Languages and Linguistics, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. After her graduation in 1976, her family became the focus of her life.

Kathy was a gentle soul who preferred giving to receiving. Love of nature led her to join the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. She volunteered at its Philadelphia Flower Show for many years, first manning the information booth, eventually rising to the Chairmanship of the information section, the show’s highest volunteer position. An accomplished gardener, she was a member of the Greene Countrie Garden Club.

A devoted vegetarian and expert cook, Kathy possessed rare baking skills and constructed elaborate gingerbread houses for her family at Christmastimes. She was a talented seamstress and an artist at knitting and needlework. She loved reading and for decades was a member of the Wyndmoor Book Club. She was devoted to the preservation of her community and served a term as Chief Inspector of her local election board. She was a master of word and number puzzles and played ferocious Scrabble. Above all else, she loved her children and grandchildren. To the latter Kathy became the most wonderful “Nana” in the world.

Ever modest, Kathy was one to deprecate her many life accomplishments. Showing how much she truly accomplished, Kathy will be deeply mourned not only by her adoring family but by countless others whom she touched through her kind spirit and loving heart.

Private services will be held at the Lownes Funeral Home, Lafayette Hill, on May 20, 2022, with interment at Whitemarsh Memorial Garden. A celebration of Kathy’s wonderful life will be held later this year.
