Obituary of Elizabeth A Wixted

Elizabeth A. Wixted (nee Garlick) aka Betty, Bet, Mom, Mom-Mom, Mom-Mom-Mom, “The Boss”

May 26, 1928 – June 18, 2022.

Betty was the daughter of Thomas and Elva (Short) Garlick.

She, (We were never allowed to call her that!), was one of 7 Children. Preceded in death by her brothers Joseph and Thomas and her sister Mary (Berner). Survived by her brother William and her sisters, Anne (Scannell) and Grace (Conroy).

Betty was the Wife of Joseph C. Wixted (Wick, Bud) November 19, 1926 – June 12, 2007.

Survived by her daughter Patricia Straub (d. James), sons Thomas * (d. Roxanne), Michael (Donna),

Joseph (Robin) and William (Tina).

13 Grandchildren, Trish (Drew Reynolds) Jim (Lea), Michael, Dana, Donna, Thomas, Lauren (Jim Glowienka), Ian, Colin, Brigid (Chris) Gera, Dylan, Gillian and Joseph.

12 Great Grandchildren, Connor, Ryan, Keenan, Kevin, Owen, Kylie, Kaitlyn, Ava, Reagan, Addison, Brynn and Kallan.

A graduate of Little Flower High School in 1946.

These are a few of the things she loved:

Family, Friends and Fun. To have these things she worked hard,and it is apparent how hard she worked.

The most loved were, Family, Friends and Fun in North Wildwood. Originally on 21st Street at the Idle Hour and now at the Compound on 16th!

If you were loved by her…..you were loved!

Betty began working for McDonald’s in the mid1960’s and soon became the 1st Female Manager of a McDonald’s franchise. At one point in her career, Ray Kroc sent 3 of his executives to investigate why a Female was the manager of one of his franchises. After a 3 - day visit, Ray was told he needs to hire as many “Bettys” as he can!

She loved life! She loved those who were part of her life, her family and her friends. She loved the Snoop Sisters

And FUN! If you were within a mile of her and she was laughing, that was your GPS to find her. When you did, you were laughing.

The Garlick Gang style was her favorite. Sitting around talking about anything and everything, making snacks, cocktails and having a laugh. If you weren’t there, you wanted to be.

Betty was loved. When you are someone who is loved by all, or at least most, you’re a pretty special person. 

Betty was a Special person!

And we weren’t allowed to call her She because She, was the Cat outside!! Sorry Mom for the all the shes used!

Elizabeth Garlick Wixted will be missed, but if we each keep a part of her with us, we too will know how to love and be loved.
