Obituary of Jean N Radatti
Jeannie Norman Radatti passed away suddenly at home in Conshohocken, PA on February 24, 2023 at the age of 74 after a brief, hard-fought battle with cancer. Born in Drexel Hill, PA on November 28, 1948, she was the younger twin of the late Lindsay Dean Norman and Julia Elizabeth (Lowe) Norman.
Jeannie lived in Media, PA during her infant years then spent much of her childhood at the family’s farm, “The Rock Bottom” near Chesapeake City, MD. When the farm became too much of a burden, her parents moved the family to a smaller farm, “Wickerton” in West Grove, PA. She was a 1966 graduate of Avon Grove High School, where she was an exceptional student and excelled at field hockey. After high school, Jeannie received her Bachelor’s degree from James Madison University and later earned her Master’s Degree in the study of Gerontology, with a focus on Kinesiology, from Drexel University.
In her earlier years, she was an extraordinary homemaker, artist, gardener, furniture restorer, cook and an avid reader. Jeannie was renowned for her themed cakes for her children’s birthday parties and enjoyed keeping up with current events and timepiece movies at local arthouse theatres and was eager to share her reviews with her family. She was always ahead of her time, bestowing to her children the value of acceptance of all cultures and creeds.
Jeannie spent much of her later life working as a fitness program director/designer, particularly concentrating on senior citizens—pioneering the “Silver Sneakers” concept in the late 1980s.
Jeannie is survived by her children Gregory (Jennifer) Derago, Elizabeth (Nicholas) DeLuca, Drew (Srivatsa) Pradeep and known as “Hammie” to her treasured grandchildren, Kendall & Harper DeLuca and Soren & Devin Pradeep. She is also survived by her brothers, Lindsay Dean and Leroy Thomas Norman and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, sister Lynn Schlough and twin sister Joanie Jones, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 25 years, Michael “Mickey” Radatti and survived by Mickey’s beloved children and grandchildren.
Her grandchildren were the highlight of her life and she loved them more than anything in the world.
In her later years, Jeannie enjoyed coffee and breakfast at Lou’s with Mickey and spending time with their adoring rescue dogs, Bleu and Willie. As most know, Jeannie was often heard lovingly telling Mickey to “cut it out” and to stop ending his sentences with a preposition.
Services will be private at the request of the family. A celebration of Jeannie’s life will be held for all family and friends in the Spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jeannie’s honor to: Montgomery County SPCA 19 E. Ridge Pike, P.O. Box 222 Conshohocken, PA 19428-0222, https://montgomerycountyspca.org/donate/
