Obituary of Joan M Sagendorph
The youngest of three daughters, Joan was born to Carol and Samuel Sagendorph on January 28th , 1954, at Abington Hospital. The family moved from Wyncote to Gwynedd Valley a year aIer Joan was born.
Joan quickly discovered her love of animals and spent her summers riding at the Violet Haines’ pony farm. She had fond memories of swimming and playing tennis at the Penllyn Club, as well as spending the month of July at Pocono Lake Preserve.
After graduating from Springfield High School, Joan ventured west to Wyoming for several years but Joan ultimately chose to return home to be close to family and friends.
When Joan returned to the Philadelphia area she worked as the receponist at the William Penn Charter School where she endeared herself to staff, faculty and students with her smile and sense of humor. Her nephews and niece especially loved seeing her there. While working at Penn Charter, she got her degree in Psychology from Gwynedd Mercy University. Later, she worked at Brooke Glen Behavioral Hospital, hoping to understand and help patients with psychiatric problems.
Joan was a caring and loyal sister, aunt, great aunt and friend to many. She loved her pets, garden, family, and many friends, including her wonderful neighbors at Steeplechase.
Joan died peacefully at her home on the night of March 22nd. She was predeceased by her parents Carol and Samuel Sagendorph, and her sister Susa Sagendorph.
A Celebration of Life is planned for May 11th at 1:00 at Sunnybrook Golf Club.
