Obituary of Marie Yvonne Stephens
Marie Yvonne Stephens of Lafayette Hill passed away peacefully on June 30, 2023 at her daughter’s home in King of Prussia at the age of 98 after a long and full life.
Yvonne, as she was fondly known, was born in 1925 in Wayne, PA to the late Francis Englebert and Francis (Kelly) Englebert. Yvonne graduated from St Katherine of Siena High School in Wanye and went to work for Bell of PA in Philadelphia as an accounting clerk until she met William C. Stephens after WWII.
They married in 1950 and started their family in Chestnut Hill and moved to Lafayette Hill in 1957 to raise their 5 children. Bill passed away in 1993.
When her children were in school, Yvonne went back to work at “The Bell” in Conshohocken now known as Verizon until her retirement in 1986. Yvonne loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, playing pinochle, attending mass at St. Philip’s and cheering on her beloved Philadelphia Eagles!
Yvonne was a member of the Bell Pioneers Volunteer Organization and the Philippians Senior Citizens Club. She was known for keeping in touch with former classmates and co-workers on the phone and sending cards for all occasions. She was still getting together for lunch with her 1st grade classmates—until she was the last one!
Yvonne is survived by her children William (Maryanne) of Skippack, Katherine of King of Prussia, Craig (Nina) of Sellersville, her 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Michael Stephens her daughter June Bomboy and her grandson Ryan Stephens as well as her sisters Jeanne Engelbert, Anne O’Donnell and Margaret Shivelhood.
Services will be held Friday July 7th at St. Philip Neri Church in Lafayette Hill, PA. Viewing is 9:30 am immediately followed by Mass of Christina Burial at 11:00am. Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery in West Conshohocken.
