As I prayed to Pat to show his family a sign he was o.k., a hummingbird flew and fed on the flowers in their garden as witnessed by Marie Ann and Brian. This hummingbird has continued to be present outside the home. As you read below, I believe Pat has answered my prayers
Hummingbird Symbolism:
The hummingbird symbolizes many different concepts. Because of its speed, the hummingbird is known as a messenger and stopper of time. It is also a symbol of love, joy, and beauty. The hummingbird is also able to fly backwards, teaching us that we can look back on our past. But, this bird also teaches that we must not dwell on our past; we need to move forward. When the hummingbird hovers over flowers while drinking nectar, we learn that we should savour each moment, and appreciate the things we love.
The hummingbird has powerful spiritual significance. In the Andes of South America the hummingbird is a symbol of resurrection. It seems to die on cold nights, but comes back to life again at sunrise.
I love you Pat. I am honored to have been your daughter in law.

My father-in-law Pat is very special to me, and to Acacia/Casey, Brian's and my daughter. To her, he is "Paddy". This photo of him was taken on the porch of our home during her Communion weekend. Yesterday, I was sitting there and I heard the phrase "father-in-law" in my head. The morning sun was shining and warm, when something urged me to look up to the sky, where I saw a rare morning sun dog. I smiled at the patch of rainbow near the sun knowing Pat was giving me a sign. At that moment, a huge truck went down our modest neighborhood street and the side of it read "Gentle Giant" with the sun dog still above it. I couldn't believe my eyes and I couldn't describe Pat/Paddy better than that--a gentle giant. Thank you, Pat, for your love over the many years and this beautiful sign. You're always in my prayers, God Bless you now and forever. Your loving daughter-in-law, Carolyn

I want to honor Pat today, on what would have been his 80th birthday by sharing the following. On the one month anniversary of his passing, I had a dream that Pat was at a Phillies game. I could see his blue eyes from across the field. I will always remember his twinkling blue eyes, and it was nice to see them and him again in this "field of dreams" way. God bless, Pat, with much love this special day, from your daughter-in-law, Carolyn
