Obituary of Erna McKevitt
In Loving Memory of Erna McKevitt (December 12, 1916 – December 30, 2023)
Erna McKevitt, a beacon of musical inspiration, peacefully passed away on December 30, 2023. Born on December 12, 1916, Erna spent her life dedicated to family and music. A proud graduate with a master's degree in music from Temple University, Erna worked with both Sergei Rachmaninoff and Leopold Stokowski as a music student. Erna shared her love for music as a devoted teacher in the Colonial School District for over 50 years, patenting her own musical instrument so that all students could learn how to play. She and her class were featured on the Today show in 1958 with actor Tony Randall interviewing her along with her students, who played the instruments she patented. After retirement, Erna taught handbell choir at St Peter's Lutheran church.
May Erna find eternal peace with her beloved husband Tom, who precedes her in death. Erna is survived by her cousin Florence Cummins, of Virginia and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Friday, Jan 12th, at St Peter's Lutheran, in Lafayette Hill.
