I am amazed to realize I've known Grace for 64 years, first as a child when my family moved to Oreland and Grace became the neighborhood mom to all the kids. Later when I married and left home, Grace was still present in my life as a young wife and mother. Her encouragement was so valued as I struggled as a military wife and sometimes burned the candle at both ends. Lastly, as we both aged and only saw each other occasionally, Grace grew even more special in my life, as I realized and treasured the years of support she had blessed me with. Although distance kept us apart, our strong connection remained.
When my mother died, Grace helped to fill that painful void for me and became one of the special women who mothered me over the years. Grace taught me unconditional love, kindness, tolerance, patience, generosity, sacrifice, and forgiveness by her example. She saw me through some really dark times in my life and never judged, instead offering understanding, gentle advice, support, and always love. Grace was my constant cheer leader, a role she played in countless lives. She never tired of helping and lifting people up. All of our phone calls ended with Grace telling me, "Take good care of you".
I dearly loved Grace and will continue to love her for the rest of my life. My health prevents me from attending her memorial service, but I will definitely be there in spirit! Farewell, my dear friend. You were an angel here on earth, and now you have earned your wings and will be a Guardian Angel for all of us!
