Obituary of Mary R. Nelson
On April 4, 2024, Mary R. (Candy) Nelson of Lansdale, PA, passed away at age 72. She spent her final days surrounded by her children and grandchild, who will always remember her for her love of her big family of brothers and sisters and loving parents. She was predeceased by parents Walter and Mary Bunting along with brother William Bunting. She is survived by her children Mary C. Nelson and John D. Nelson III and his spouse, as well as by a devoted grandchild: Rowan. Mary is also survived by her brothers Walter (Walt), Robert (Bob), John (Jack) and sisters Deborah (Debbie) and Elizabeth (Betsy) along with their spouses, as well as by several nieces and nephews and their children who greatly enjoyed her company throughout the years.
Mary grew up in Oreland, PA. She graduated from Springfield High school and later pursued her dream of Nursing where she attended and graduated from Eastern University for Bachelor of Science, Nursing. Following graduation, she worked in a hospital within Philadelphia then decided to change direction to specialize in gerontology where she worked in several nursing facilities until retirement.
During childhood Mary enjoyed visiting Stone Harbor, New Jersey for several summers where she loved the beach, visiting a friend of her grandmothers in Caledonia, working alongside with her sisters Debbie, Betsy, and Memom Bunting at Gwynedd Mercy College in the summers. Mary cherished spending time with her children growing up and enjoyed going to the shore, camping as well as attending various school events like track, soccer, and basketball during their school years. She and her children enjoyed going to Oreland Swim Club during the summer.
Later on in life, she enjoyed traveling to see her son and family. Mary’s passions were gardening, listening to music, cooking, and entertaining family at her home, joking around with friends and family, caring for her dogs, watching Eagles Football, and attending church. She was happiest when caring for the people around her and will always be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and willingness to help others.
Funeral services will be held at George Washington Memorial Park, 80 Stenton Ave, Plymouth Meeting, PA on Saturday, April 13. There will be visitation from 10:00-11:00 am at the Chapel there at George Washington Memorial Park before the funeral service which starts at 11:00 to 12pm. Interment will be private.
