Obituary of Dr. Thomas A. Foglia Jr.

Dr. Thomas A. Foglia Jr., age 73 of Lafayette Hill PA, died Thursday (1/30) at his home in Lafayette Hill, surrounded by his loving family. He was a Biochemist employed by The USDA and was with the Department of Agriculture for over 41 years. Dr. Foglia was born in Phila. the son of the late Thomas and the late Catherine Cecchini Foglia Sr... Dr.Foglia was a graduate of Bishop Neuman High School, Drexel University and received his PhD from Temple University in Organic Chemistry in 1968 . He was a past President of the American Oil Chemist Society and the E.R.R.L. Credit Union. Dr. Foglia was a well respected Biochemist and published several papers and journals in his field. He was also received the ARS Scientist of the Year Award. In 1983 he received his first patent in describing a process for preparing to branch-chain fatty acids to esters. By the time he retired he had 14 other patents under his belt. Dr. was also invited several times to lecture nationally and internationally. Dr. Foglia was a member and former usher at Saint Philip Neri Church in Lafayette Hill and also was an avid golfer, a sport he really enjoyed. Dr. Foglia will be sorely missed by his loving family and his many friends and relatives. He is survived by his wife Merle "Mickie" (Perpetua ) Foglia one daughter: Karen Gerace (Carmen) of Glen Mills, PA two sons: Thomas A. Foglia (Colleen) of Gwynedd Valley, PA, Michael Foglia (Stephanie) of Plymouth Meeting, PA. 8 grandchildren- Alexis , Thomas IV , Alexander , Madyson , Maya , Alana, Gabriella and Gianna. Friends may call Monday 2/3/14 from 6-8pm at Lownes Funeral Home, 659 Germantown Pike, Lafayette Hill, PA. and Tuesday from 9:30-10:15am at Saint Philip Neri Church, 437 Ridge Pike, Lafayette Hill, PA..
