I worked with Peter with the Wissahickon Democrats. We appreciated his work and dedication, especially in his later years with us a secretary and he always thanked me for finding those devilish typos that can sneak into the most carefully prepared minutes.
One night, before Covid, he appeared at the meeting with his leather hat and I had my old time Stetson. I insisted we have a picture taken to capture the moment and I've attached it to this message.
We will miss Peter - a true gentleman.
I also went through our archives and posted all the pictures I could find of Peter at our various events through the years. I'm certain I missed a few but to see them you can look at our site for them.

I only met Mr. Funch a few times while visiting Jennifer and her kids for special occasions, and we were Facebook friends for years. I will miss his insightful posts on current events and I know his children and grandchildren will miss him always and forever.

My family moved to Lafayette Hill in 1961. Soon after, my older brother John R. met up with Peter, Bill and Ron. Four individuals that would become life-long friends. I remember well the way this Fab Four explored their formative years together. Sledding at Whitemarsh CC on snowy days off in the winter. Or sneaking onto the 7th and 8th holes on warm summer evenings dodging the water sprinklers and avoiding the Greens Keeper. Their teen years saw them attending the ever-popular Mixers at LaSalle High School. Golfing continued at the Walnut Lane Golf Club. A truly classic experience, unrivaled in the golfing world. In the years running up to university, on many a warm evening you could see a sizable gathering playing basketball under the light on Hoover’s driveway. On one such occasion, going on towards midnight, the best water balloon fight ever in the annals of Whitemarsh history, broke out.
John R and Peter had a special connection. Playing American Civil War board games such as the Battle of Gettysburg, Antietam, and Chancellorsville. These were mammoth events that would last entire 2 day and sometimes 3-day weekends. Over time both Peter and John R had amassed huge collections of books on military and political history. A wealth of knowledge that served them well discussions, debates, and even in well intended arguments.
Peter was indeed special. I will miss him dearly.

I am so saddened to hear about Peter's passing. He meant so much to the Wissahickon Democrats serving as committee person and Recording Secretary for 10 years. Peter was so conscientious taking perfect minutes. He also served as Judge of Elections.
He was such a kind, intelligent and hard working man with a very dry sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by so many. My sincere condolences to Barbara and their entire family.

Peter was such a sweet, nice guy. I really enjoyed him at our reunions in Winston-Salem. I also loved the things he put in Facebook about protecting animals and about his Maine coon cat! The Maine coones in the world along with rescue animal are going to suffer a great loss. My heart goes out to miss family. He will be missed. Isabel Stensland

Peter is a beautiful person and cousin.
He made many friends who loved him for his kindness and helpful demeanor.
A great man of faith who was a devout Christian ( his middle name)
We grew up together and remained close to the present day.
I will miss our discussions about the Civil War and current events.
My heart goes out to his family and friends. I know he loved you all very much.
