I worked in the same department with Ed at Sun Company. He was the kindest, warmest, most gentle soul I ever met. He was my go to guy when I needed a place to go to vent or just a safe place to breathe. I can still picture him doing his strange stretch where his hand spider walked up the wall. He loved playing basketball even though his body would hurt afterwards. I remember him bragging about his low heart rate. I remember his unwavering devotion to Big Brothers and going bowling to raise money for the organization. I remember his little brother Dale and watching him grow up. Dale was a lucky young man to have Ed as his big brother. Ed adored his family and his heart would swell with love and pride when he spoke of Pam.
When I left Sun, we lost touch but I thought of him often.
He was truly one of a kind.
I am so sorry to hear that he had Parkinson’s. He was so full of life. It must have been so difficult for him to have his body fail him and not be able to participate 100%.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family. A great loss. A wonderful guy.

I had the great fortune to know Ed as a neighbor and a friend. He holds a special place in my heart as for the first year or two that I began working after college, we drove together in Ed's little Ford car to the Chestnut Hill Train Station and then took the train downtown together. It turns out that Ed worked for Sun Oil Company, as did my father, who had died when I was only 15 years old. Ed even worked in the same building on Walnut Street where my father had worked. We had a great love for the Phillies in common and enjoyed many fun conversations during our daily commutes. Ed and Bernie took good neighborly care of my mother for the nearly ten years that she lived across the street from them and introduced me to the crazy
world of loving the Sheltie breed. I was well aware of the time he devoted to the Big Brother program as he spoke to me of it often. He was just a dear man with a great smile! I hope that Ed is at peace and wish Bernie, Pam, Ava and all of their family comfort in their happy memories of a life shared with a wonderful man.
Sincerely,
Susan Reilly

MY BIG BROTHER
It is no wonder that Eddie excelled at being a big brother. He was the BEST big brother that a sister could ever have. When our family went fishing in the Pocono Mountains he was the one who showed me how to bait a hook so that I could catch sunfish (sunnies as they were called). He always found the best spots in the woods for me to pick huckleberries and often helped to fill my bucket. Our family owned beagles, and he let me hold them while he told me how to take care of them.
When I was 7 or 8 years old I was being bullied by an older boy at school. One morning Eddie walked with me to school. When I pointed out my aggressor Eddie calmly marched over to him and told him exactly what he would do if he did not leave me alone. Needless to say I was never bothered again.
Many times we went for toboggan sled rides down the sand plant hills. He always made sure that I was tucked safely in the middle.
When I entered high school he would often drop me off on his way to Drexel. Math was never my strong suit, and he was always there to help with Algebra and Geometry.
I had planned a winter wedding, and with impending snow Eddie said he had to get out of a business trip to Puerto Rico to be there. He also was the only one with a video camera and filmed my entire wedding.
Eddie became a great and loving uncle to my two sons Matthew and Luke and was Matthew's Godfather.
I will always have these memories in my heart as I think of Eddie with fondness.

To my Uncle Ed,
It was always exciting to go visit Uncle Ed and Aunt Bernie and my older cousin Pam over the summers while school was out. One of the first things Uncle Ed would do with my sister and I on these visits was look over our report cards. We got $5 for each A, $3 for B’s and $1 for C’s so needless to say we were always motivated to keep our grades way up! He brought me shopping for shoes and got me my first pair of “Chucks” and he took us to Dorney Park almost every summer. I fondly remember Aunt Bernie and Uncle Ed taking us to Saturday evening Mass followed by dinner out at Pizza Hut! It was one of our favorite things to do with them. Root beer in those bumpy, red, plastic glasses and as much pizza as we could eat! What more could a kid ask for? We’d be surrounded by 6, 7, 8 shelties on their living room floor as we watched Mtv and awesome 80s movies and, for whatever reason, he became obsessed over Micheal Jackson’s song, “Smooth Criminal” and cleverly changed the name from Annie to Eddie and would try to imitate that impressive, deep lean while singing “Eddie, are you ok?” There was one night where he was hosting poker for he and his buddies and Aunt Bernie had my sister and I bring down all the snacks for them. We really felt so special because all the “old men” made a big deal over us and told us how great Ed was and how lucky we were to have him as an Uncle. I couldn’t agree more. Although, I also remember snuggling upstairs with Aunt Bernie and the dogs later that evening when Uncle Ed came dashing up the stairs, grabbed money from his room, and dashed back down to rejoin his group to which my Aunt said, “Well, that’s never good!”
As the years went on my visits there were less frequent but I’d always try to make it down for any cookout that Uncle Ed was grilling his amazing burgers. He’d update me on his cycling adventures, trips to Florida and any new songs or movies he really liked. And once Ava appeared on the scene, he was completely devoted and so loving and nurturing with her as he finally had a grandchild he could dote on! No matter what was going on, Uncle Ed was a steadfast, positive figure in my life.
There’s countless memories with him which I’m so thankful for and I know I’ll carry these with me forever. So whether it’s a big foam finger of a favorite sports team, singing “Twelve Days of Christmas” at holiday events, or seeing signs to “PARK AROUND BACK,” I know his spirit is still very much alive and saying hello. Whenever I’d visit him at Blue Bell I’d ask him “Eddie, are you ok?” and now I know he finally is!
I love you so much Uncle Ed!

I am sad I did not get to say goodbye to Ed but I know he is now at peace. Ed recruited me as a Big brother 25 years ago and it was one of the best organizations I was ever involved with. I loved talking baseball and stocks with Ed and he will be missed. My heartfelt condolences to Bernie, Pam and Ava whom I know he loved so much.

I hope this message finds your family in a moment of peace and comfort. Ed's dedication to Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) and his profound impact on the lives of countless youth will forever be remembered. As Chair of BBBS SEPA, Ed embodied what it meant to lift up all youth in Greater Philadelphia community.
I first had the privilege of meeting Ed during my initial month after taking over as CEO of BBBS SEPA over a decade ago. Since then, our sporadic lunches and his participation in our golf outings became cherished traditions. Ed's face would light up with pride as I acknowledged his exceptional contributions to BBBS, recounting his 40 years of mentoring five different Littles. His generosity and commitment to the organization were truly extraordinary.
Despite the challenges he faced due to Parkinson's Disease, Ed continued to hold a special place in our hearts. His unwavering dedication to BBBS and the memories he created with his Littles remained a source of inspiration for us all.
I am deeply saddened by the news of Ed's passing, and my heart goes out to you and his family during this difficult time. While we mourn the loss of "the young fella," as I fondly called him, we find solace in knowing that he is now at peace.
Ed was a great man, and his legacy will continue to live on through the positive influence he had on the lives of those he touched. Please accept my sincere condolences and positive thoughts on my friend Ed.

I have so many fond memories of Ed from my childhood. He always shared his big heart and smile with me every time I came to Pam's house. Especially joyful are my memories of hanging with Ed, Bernie and Pam at Christmastime, and dancing and singing to the "Monster Mash" with Ed. His life was a blessing to all of us!

I never met Edward but I can attest to the fact that he's a great father, because I know he raised a great daughter in Pam. May he rest in peace until all the family is reunited in eternity.

We lived across the street from Bernie and Ed. I was a single parent of three boys. Ed would take the boys to ballgames and share their enthusiasm for sports. It was great for us to have Ed in our lives.
