Obituary of Victor A. Mendoza
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Victor Alfonso Mendoza, beloved son, brother, nephew, cousin, tito/uncle, and friend. He passed away unexpectedly on May 9, 2024 in Wilmington, DE. Victor was born on March 8, 1971, in Philadelphia, PA to Corazon Maniago Mendoza and Vicente Albero Mendoza.
After attending Norwood-Fontbonne Academy and St. Joseph’s Prep, Victor completed his undergraduate degree in Communications at Fordham University in 1993. While at Fordham, he was a member of the sports department staff for WFUV radio station where he was an occasional on-air announcer.
After college Victor worked in New York City, where he also had a side gig working with the New York/New Jersey MetroStars. In 2004 he returned to Plymouth Meeting after a health scare revealed a previously undiagnosed congenital heart condition. His return to the Philadelphia area allowed him to indulge in his love of all Philadelphia sports teams, especially his beloved Phillies. When he wasn’t tailgating and in the stands with his buddies, he could be found supporting his alma maters’ sports teams, keeping up with the latest scores, Wordling, or enjoying craft beer and trivia nights with his friends.
Victor was devoted to his extended family. A staple at family gatherings, Victor was willing to drive for hours to connect with cousins for birthdays, holidays, and reunions. To several of his cousins’ children, he was ‘Tito Vutu’, the uncle with a ready laugh who hid the eggs for the annual Easter egg hunt in the backyard.
Victor is survived by his father, Vicente; his sister, Cindy; his brother-in-law Carlo Pelligrini; and many cousins and extended family members. He was predeceased by his mother Corazon Mendoza.
A viewing will be held on Friday, May 24, 2024 from 9:00 - 10:00 am, followed immediately by a funeral mass at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, 2007 New Hope St, Norristown, PA.
